CVC WORDS: i
CVC words are short words that consist of a vowel connecting two consonants, like big or sit. These short, three-letter CVC words are the first that children learn to read or decode, but longer CVC words do exist: tick is also a CVC word because the ck acts as one consonant sound.
Download our CVC i Bubble Bath activity and CVC i Words list below.
The CVC i Bubble Bath activity introduces children to CVC words, focusing on one connecting vowel. Talk through the different beginning and ending consonants, and what sound they make in front of or after the letter i. How many words can you make that have the letter i in the middle? Can you write down three words by picking one beginning consonant and one end consonant for each?
The CVC i Words list is an extensive source of short CVC i words, grouping them together by ending. The list can be printed out and kept as a reference.
