Boost Success in School with our Year 7 English Worksheets and Year 7 Workbooks
In Year 7, kids are starting a new Key Stage. Many of them will be advanced readers and writers by now, with experience handling a wide variety of written material.
Mrs Wordsmith is on a mission to help kids take their reading and writing skills to the next level. Our resources are aligned to the UK National Curriculum and include Year 7 worksheets, books, Year 7 workbooks, and games. Some of the resources described on this page are appropriate for other age groups as well, so you may have seen them before.
Our Reading Comprehension Vocabulary Year 7 worksheets printable is curated into topical sections designed to prepare your child to recognise words from classic literature, and to ace curriculum-aligned exams. It includes 500 frequently occurring words, which you can break into short sections of Year 7 English worksheets. We use proven methods to increase retention so that kids make fewer mistakes. First, we pre-teach the definition of a word. Then, we guide kids through exercises focused around synonyms and antonyms to solidify the word’s relationship to other words. Lastly, we use fill-in-the-blank sentences to help kids use the word in context. This Year 7 workbook printable is perfectly suited to older readers (ages 11-16), helping to promote independent learning and making it the perfect choice if you're looking for worksheets for 12 year olds.
To expand your child's storytelling vocabulary and give them a dose of creative inspiration, try our Storyteller's books. Research suggests that explicit vocabulary instruction leads to better results than reading by itself, which is why the hundreds of illustrated words in our Storyteller's Word a Day flipbooks (Part 1 and 2) include definitions, synonyms, word pairs, and story starters. This rich content is shown to capture attention and help reinforce new vocabulary. Along with these flip books, our Storyteller's Illustrated Dictionary is the perfect tool to help kids pepper their writing with new words and ideas.
For more Year 7 worksheets, try our How to Write a Story printable. This illustrated guide to creative writing contains everything kids need to get started writing their own stories, including guidance on character development and plotting, as well as story kits to help generate ideas. Bright and funny, these are not your typical KS3 English worksheets!
Is your young writer having trouble with writer's block and needing a break from looking at pages and screens? Check out our Storyteller's Card Game, a fun and effective way to boost vocabulary and develop storytelling skills. Kids will learn 300 words specifically chosen to improve creative writing, and the whole family will enjoy some healthy creative competition!
From Year 7 worksheets to books and games chock-full of the vocabulary your child needs to thrive academically (and creatively!), Mrs Wordsmith has you covered.
