Game-based learning works

The best way to learn to read is through a process calledsystematic synthetic phonics. In other words, kids should learn the sounds that go with each letter/spelling in a logical progression. As with most new things, repetition is the key to success. The only problem is, repetition can get boring. And when kids aren’t engaged, they don’t learn.

This is where Mrs Wordsmith comes in. We make learning ridiculously fun (pun intended) by designing reading games for maximum entertainment and educational value.

Meet each letter, in all its uppercase and lowercase glory, and listen to how it sounds. You'll know the alphabet in no time with this friendly introduction.

ABC Dinner

Practice target sounds by feeding Bogart the hungry maggot! Watch out... he’ll eat anything as long as it starts with the right sound.

Pop!

Burst bubbles to reinforce knowledge of target sounds! With each pop, you'll hear the sound or words beginning with that sound. Brace yourself for some serious giggling as the characters make silly faces with each pop!

Build a Word

Roll up your sleeves to do some segmenting (breaking words apart) and blending (putting them back together) in this drag-and-drop game. Unlock a hilarious new animation with each correct answer!

Sight and Seek

Some words can’t be easily decoded or sounded out. These are called high-frequency words or sight words. Learn to spot and read these words quickly with this mysterious matching grid. Who's hiding underneath?
