Mrs Wordsmith’s highlights from BETT 2025

Mrs Wordsmith’s highlights from BETT 2025

Every year, the global education community comes together at BETT to celebrate the latest and greatest developments in our industry. This year, a whopping 35,000 people turned up, including Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson who delivered a keynote address, outlining plans to modernise education through technology, emphasising AI's role in supporting teachers and improving student outcomes. Visitors included everyone from teachers and policymakers to students and charities, as well as – of course – our glamorous mascot Oz, in all her avian glory.

Proudly supporting schools

Together with some of her less feathery colleagues, Oz proudly represented Mrs Wordsmith during the three-day event. Our stand was as colourful as you’d expect, kitted out with lots of our print and digital products. The star of the show was our new vocabulary power duo for schools that blend the magic of print and digital learning with our Narrative Journey lessons and Word Tag video game combo, where Madagascar genius’ beloved characters make vocabulary stick through story and play. Teacher are also able to track their students' progress effortlessly with instant insights into each child's learning journey… for free. Yep, that’s right: in line with government goals, we’re offering Word Tag combined with Narrative Journey to schools, completely free of charge!

If you’re not already familiar with our Narrative Journey, think of it as a year’s worth of easy, fun vocabulary lessons, fully planned and ready to go! We also make sure that everything is backed by scientifically proven learning methods. According to a study by the National Literacy Trust, children’s overall knowledge of vocabulary increased by 50% in just one term after learning with our Narrative Journey programme.

What our pedagogy expert has to say

"The BETT show was an invaluable opportunity to connect directly with our audience. We were deeply moved by teachers who dropped by to express their love for our products and deeply inspired by those who came to explain their needs and hear more about how our products could meet them. Engaging directly with educators was a reminder of why what we do is so meaningful!"

All the world’s a stage

Once our stand was set up (complete with Brick-branded chocolates and a friendship bracelet station), we started greeting visitors. We were blown away by the amount of interest we received. Hundreds and hundreds of educators from all around the world, all keen to hear about what we do and why we do it. With iPads at the ready, we had demos of Word Tag set up, allowing people to get a feel for what the game is like. Our team also walked visitors through our books, card games and broader product range. Given BETT’s huge reach, we met educators from places like South Korea, Iceland, America, Italy and more. As a result, we ended up talking about products we currently have in production to expand our offering into other languages (watch this space!)

Brandon Cardet-Hernandez, Mrs Wordsmith’s President, was among the selected speakers at the event – not just once, but three times. As a lifelong advocate for kids and education, former special education teacher, principal and now our President, he presented Mrs Wordsmith’s approach to vocabulary learning and its impact on children, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We’re big believers in the power of adopting a multi-sensory approach, combining teacher instruction, visual word walls and video games like Word Tag. That way, teachers can create a comprehensive vocabulary learning experience that engages all students, regardless of their needs or disabilities.

“It’s always a privilege to talk about how our work at Mrs Wordsmith is helping to close the literacy gap, especially for children with disabilities. I’ve seen how transformative evidence-based approaches grounded in the Science of Reading can be. By combining direct instruction with game-based learning, we’ve created tools like Word Tag and the Narrative Journey that not only engage kids but also equip them with the critical literacy skills they need to thrive.”

Inspired by innovative exhibitors

This year, more than 600 providers exhibited at BETT, some of whom we’re already very familiar with. BenQ, our favourite interactive whiteboards for schools, is the perfect way to display our Narrative Journey. Their exhibit looked fantastic! We also made sure to pop along to Yoto, the audio platform for children. With a huge range of cards that slot into their adorable little devices, children can enjoy being read a story whenever they want (and personally, we’re huge fans!) We were just as pleased to see Arbor exhibiting, the UK's most popular school management system. Streamlining everything from attendance to assessment, Arbor makes it easier to provide quality education. Our final shoutout goes to Wonde, the data management solution that helps us deliver Word Tag to schools. By enabling teachers to control what words their pupils encounter and even track their learning, Wonde makes Word Tag an even more powerful tool.

“It was fantastic to exhibit alongside such innovative brands. As technology continues to evolve in new and exciting ways, literacy outcomes are improving for children all around the world – and we’re thrilled to be a part of that movement.”

Throughout each of the three days of BETT, we were proud to represent our brand and touched by the hundreds of people who wanted to learn more about it. To everyone who came to our exhibit or listened to Brandon’s talk, thank you! It was a privilege to attend BETT and we’re excited for whatever next year’s event has in store. Until next time!
