On 8th December, we are thrilled to join the National Literacy Trust as part of their Next Young City Poet programme, a powerful initiative that empowers young people to find their voice through poetry, storytelling, and creativity.

As champions of literacy and visual storytelling, we’re excited to support an event designed to inspire the next generation of writers and illustrators.

About the Next Young City Poet Programme

The Next Young City Poet initiative brings together schools, young writers, creative organisations, and literary partners to celebrate the vibrant voices of young people across the UK. Through workshops, live events, and creative challenges, participants are encouraged to explore identity, community, and the world around them through poetry and art.


This year’s programme includes a special illustration workshop, proudly supported by Mrs Wordsmith, offering students the chance to learn from working artists and explore how visual storytelling brings poetry to life.

  • Visualising ideas from poetry

  • Turning words into expressive characters

  • Creative tips from professional illustrators
