Fun, Fans, and Fantastic Costumes
Our stand was a hive of activity all weekend! The Mrs Wordsmith team was out in full force, chatting with families, teachers, and fellow word-lovers. We loved seeing so many creative costumes, everything from superheroes to storybook characters.

Our bestselling products flew off the shelves, with Blah Blah Blah, The Big Book of Feelings, Storyteller’s Card Game, and Vocabularious proving especially popular. It was heartwarming to hear stories from teachers using our resources to spark a love of language in their students, and from parents whose children have found confidence and joy in reading and storytelling.
Creating the Next Generation of Comic Superstars
But we didn’t just stay at our stand! Throughout the weekend, we ran hands-on workshops designed to help children write and draw their very first comic books. Our talented writers and artists guided young creatives through the secrets of building memorable cartoon characters and the essential ingredients of what makes a great comic story. The creativity on display was nothing short of inspiring: kids dreamed up heroes, villains, and whole new worlds. A big shout out to Batman Smoke, the one-eyed slime villain! The creativity on display was honestly nothing short of inspirational.

“During one of the workshops, I noticed that one boy – who arrived slightly late – was getting frustrated at himself for not being able to come up with any good superhero ideas on the spot,” says Phil Mamuyac, Art Director at Mrs Wordsmith. I told him: "Sometimes I just scribble on my paper so it's not just a blank white sheet anymore! It's less scary that way." By the time the workshop was over, he had several of the blank comic panels filled in! You could see he came out of his shell a little bit and was proud of his drawings.”
Bringing cartoons into the classroom
As well as our comic book workshops, we also hosted our own panel at MCM ComicCon. Jo Jackson, our Schools Lead, together with Phil Mamuyac, Art Director at Mrs Wordsmith, shed light on the way in which Mrs Wordsmith uses cartoon characters and principles of comedy to teach vocabulary. Because it’s not just more fun that way – it’s proven to be more effective. When children are genuinely amused, they’re much more likely to retain the information making them laugh. In front of a live audience, Phil and Jo explained how we go from a seed of an idea all the way through to a finished illustration. It was a great opportunity for us to lift the lid on the magic behind our print and digital products.

"Presenting at London ComicCon alongside my colleague Phil was a fantastic experience,” says Jo. “We shared how character-based learning can ignite children’s imaginations and deepen their vocabulary skills—and the response was incredibly positive. It was inspiring to see such enthusiasm for creative approaches to education, and I left feeling energised by the conversations it sparked."
Thank You, MCM ComicCon!
"The best part of MCM was seeing people of all ages who had been inspired by the power of storytelling - TV, film, comic books - and using it to express themselves freely and passionately,” says Charles Meyrick, Mrs Wordsmith’s Head of Storytelling. “It proves the importance and power of producing authentic worlds and characters, and the value of learning to do this well. By sharing our workshops, panels, and learning materials at MCM, we've helped to inspire the next generation of creatives to use their words and the fullness of their imaginations to invent something new and exciting."
It was truly an honour to be part of MCM ComicCon 2025. Meeting so many of our customers—both new and old—reminded us why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, joined a workshop, or listened to our panel talk. We left inspired and even more excited for our next adventure. Wherever the next convention takes us, we can’t wait to see you there. Until then—keep reading, keep writing, and keep dreaming big!
